# Rate limits and plan limits

> Requests per second, daily limits, result limits and history on your plan.

Your plan sets:

* requests per second for each effort level, and optionally across all of
  them;
* an optional number of requests per UTC day;
* the largest `limit` (results per search);
* how far back you can search;
* whether you can open story pages, and how often;
* which Enterprise fields you can add with `include`.

## Check your plan

[`GET /subscription`](/docs/api-reference/subscription/get-subscription-info)
returns all of your limits and your credit balance. It is free.

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://api.newscatcherapi.com/news-api/subscription" \
  -H "x-api-key: $NEWSCATCHER_API_KEY"
```

| Field | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| `plan` | Your plan's code. |
| `max_articles_per_page` | The largest `limit` you can send. A larger one gets `403`. |
| `historical_days` | How many days back you can search. A longer `search_window` is cut to it. |
| `requests_per_second` | Requests per second for each effort level, for your whole organization. |
| `shared_requests_per_second` | Requests per second across all effort levels, if limited. |
| `daily_request_limit` / `daily_requests_used` | Requests allowed and used today (UTC). |
| `credits_per_search` | Credits one successful search costs, per effort level. |
| `story` | Whether story pages are on, their requests per second and their price. |
| `extra_fields` | The Enterprise fields you can `include`. |
| `credits_balance` | Credits left. Cached for up to 2 minutes; usage reaches it 1 to 3 minutes late. |

## When you hit a limit

Over a rate limit you get `429` with a `Retry-After` header. Wait that many
seconds, then retry the same request.

A `search_window` longer than your plan's history is not refused: it is cut to
your history, and the response says `"clamped": true` in `window`.

## Agent limits

* `max_rows` can be 50 (default) or 100. More is refused with
  `too_many_rows`.
* Monitors can run hourly only when your plan allows it. A shorter interval
  than your plan allows is refused with `invalid_schedule`.
* A company run takes up to 50 companies on Free and pay-as-you-go plans. On
  [Enterprise plans](/docs/get-started/enterprise-plans.md), more are split into runs
  of up to 50, grouped in a [batch](/docs/agent/runs.md#batches).
